A Review of the Viatores Lodge Christmas meeting – 10th December 2016

Firstly, Lodge members, in the company of their Masonic guests, held a short meeting to conduct the business of the Lodge, whilst the ladies and non Masonic guests enjoyed coffee/tea and biscuits in the Corinthian Suite of the Charmandean Centre. Once the Lodge had been closed, the ladies and our non Masonic guests were escorted into the Lodge room where R.W.Bro. Ian Lay PProv.GM gave a short explanation of the different Lodge offices, as well as the aprons and badges worn by the incumbents. The Provincial Grand Charity Steward, W.Bro. Paul Dedman PJGD followed this by giving an excellent summary, explaining how the new Masonic Charitable Foundation was created, by the bringing together of the work of the Freemasons' Grand Charity, the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys, the Masonic Samaritans Fund and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution. He continued with an extensive reminder of the good work carried out by Masonic Charities, not only in supporting Masons and their dependants directly, but also about the assistance given to the many non Masonic organisations world wide. He also spoke about the 2017 Festival (Sussex) and then made a presentation of the “Gold” award for the 2017 Festival, to our Lodge Charity Steward, W Bro David Holliday P.Pr.GReg, in recognition of his excellent efforts in encouraging the members of Viatores Lodge to generate a serious level of contributions, well over and above their planned target. This was a very worthwhile presentation which was appreciated by the audience and for which the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Peter Bance, gave W.Bro. Paul Dedman a generous vote of thanks.

The meeting was followed by a “White Table” Dinner at which members, their ladies and non Masonic guests enjoyed traditional Christmas Fayre and were subsequently entertained by the Lancing Brass Band of the Royal British Legion who also provided accompaniment for traditional Carol singing. At the end of the evening, thanks to the generosity of the Brethren and their guests, the Worshipful Master was able to present a cheque to the Provincial Grand Charity Steward for the sum of £432 of which, £370 was for the 2017 Festival and £62 Teddies for Loving Care appeal, an on-going favourite charity in the Province of Sussex.

A thoroughly enjoyable Meeting and “White Table” Dinner was enjoyed by all those attending.

Ladies' Festival – February 2015

A Ladies' Festival Dinner was held on Saturday 28th February 2015 at The Angmering Manor Hotel. The formal event was very well attended by 44 Lodge members and their guests and an excellent menu was enjoyed by all. In accordance with our usual custom at such events, a raffle was held which generated some £222 for the benefit of the Chestnut Tree Children's Hospice in Poling. This, when added to a further £205 that was raised at the President's Summer Dinner held last July, has resulted in a donation to that beneficiary of just over £400.00
